Ambleside is a popular family-run school, founded in 1926 by the grandmother of the present Headmistress. It caters for boys and girls from three to eight years old. It has a happy, home from home atmosphere, and encourages children to develop their talents and personality, giving every pupil individual attention. Strong emphasis is placed on small classes, sound discipline and good manners.
An all-day Nursery facility is now available (from 8.50 am - 3.15 pm) and proposals are being put forward to extend the age range up to 11+ as of the year 2000.
The school's aim is to give pupils a wide interest and good basic knowledge of the 3 R's. The children follow a well balanced structured curriculum, incorporating the National Curriculum guidelines but broadening out beyond these. Classrooms are light and airy, and the school boasts a well-equipped, safe playground with a large surrounding garden.
